New Releases for Friday 3rd March 2023...
The Songs of Bacharach and Costello, compiled by Elvis Costello, brings together all of the published songs that Costello has written with Burt Bacharach and celebrates the three decade songwriting partnership between them. All the more poignant as the release follows the recent death of legend Burt Bacharach.
CD and vinyl versions available.
'Steve Mason (Beta Band) releases his fifth solo album, Brothers and Sisters. This is his most open, honest and vibrant solo record to date, 'it marries the personal and the political but does so in an emotive and uplifting manner...With musical contributions from feted Pakistani singer Javed Bashir, British gospel singers Jayando Cole, Keshia Smith, Connie McCall and Adrian Blake and Kaviraj Singh on the santoor it’s a record about bringing people together through art, music and culture.'
CD, black double vinyl and deluxe gold double vinyl available.
New studio album by Wild Billy Childish and CTMF 'Featuring Billy at his song writing best! Includes covers of Richard Hell and Jimi Hendrix songs, along with a newly recorded version of "Bob Dylan’s Got a Lot to Answer For"!'
'BBC Broadcasts is an extensive collection of broadcast material from one of the biggest selling recording artists of all time. Curated by Genesis founding member Tony Banks and the group’s long-time engineer and producer Nick Davis.'
A 5CD set and a 3LP set are available
'The inimitable post-punk icon Brix Smith is held in high regard for her work with The Fall, The Adult Net and The Extricated, but even after four decades in the game she’s still embracing new musical horizons with characteristic intensity. This is her debut solo album...She has described the album, Valley of the Dolls, as sounding like a cross between The Breeders and Hole with an atmosphere that’s “very dystopian California.” It features special guests including Susanna Hoffs from The Bangles and Siobhan Fahey of Bananarama and Shakespear's Sister. British rapper Slowthai releases new album UGLY (U Gotta Love Yourself) this week.
'UGLY is slowthai pulling himself apart and exposing his anxieties of the last couple of years, an acronym for U Gotta Love Yourself. Musically, this new album may show a side of him that people haven’t heard before but he sees it as the fullest picture yet - and attentive listeners will have noticed this musical tendency before. UGLY is about reconnecting with first principles. Plunging into rock music with as much singing as rapping, it is both a striking departure for slowthai and a return to the roots of Tyron Frampton.'
