This week marked Off The Beaten Tracks' 19th birthday!
We opened our first shop on 8th March 2004 at 29 Aswell St. and the release everyone wanted that week was experimental post hardcore band Mars Volta's debut De-loused In The Comatorium - did you get a copy?
Don't miss live music in store this Saturday!
We are chuffed to have live music in the shop this week from The Elliott Morris Band
Originally from Lincolnshire Elliott Morris is an award-winning singer/songwriter and guitarist. He is currently on tour with his band and playing various dates around the county this month, including Louth Riverhead on Sun 12th March. Join us at 3pm for a taster in store this Saturday 11th March.
New releases!
We have loads of interesting new stuff in store this week, too many to mention here, but here goes!
Sleaford Mods release their new album UK Grim through Rough Trade Records. 'As the Nottingham duo's most dancefloor friendly release to date, UK Grim is an urgent and sage-like look at life, living and the gritty reality of our era.'
CD, Ltd Silver LP or black vinyl available.
Van Morrison - Moving In Skiffle
'Van Morrison’s love of skiffle dates back to his childhood...The 23-track album goes to the heart of the music Van Morrison has inhabited ever since he was six years old, hanging out in the smoky confines of Belfast’s Atlantic Records. It also contains songs that underline, in their messages on the importance of freedom and living on your own terms, his lifetime philosophy...Key contributors on the album include Dave Keary (guitars), Pete Hurley (bass), Colin Griffin (drums) and Sticky Wicket (washboard). Current Brit folk favourite Seth Lakeman also contributes fiddle to five songs.'
Double CD
The Smile’s Europe 2022 Live Recordings have been released on vinyl.
'The release marks the triumvirate’s momentous debut European 30 + stop tour including illustrious venues such as London Roundhouse and Berlin’s Tempodrom and Primevera Sound, Barcelona.'
Performed by Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner
Sunrise Bang Ur Head Against The Wall is a new EP from producer, singer, songwriter and visual artist Nia Archives.
'Across the EP Nia is broadly talking about growing up as a person, reaching new levels of maturity, love and loss, rejection, estrangement, the come up and the come down. Nia says that “It’s the most exciting project I’ve made yet and It’s window into the future and the kind of artist I want to become. It’s six tracks with six different moods soundtracking the recent chapter in my life.”
Mdou Moctar release the two part Niger EP series – featuring live and alternate versions of songs spanning the band’s discography recorded in their native Niger.
Part 1 is on limited edition yellow vinyl and Part 2 is on limited green vinyl.
Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow's score to Alex Garland's Men, now available on vinyl. Salisbury and Barrow craft an unsettling, haunting, vocal-driven score. Available on black vinyl, housed in a deluxe sleeve.
The fifth album from H.Hawkline (Huw Evans), Milk For Flowers via Heavenly Recordings. Following the 2017 album I Romanticize and 2015's In The Pink of Condition, the album was produced and features musical contributions from long-time collaborator and celebrated solo artist Cate Le Bon. Artwork is designed by H.Hawkline.
Keyboard legend Rick Wakeman releases his new concept album A Gallery Of The Imagination via Madfish this week...Wakeman says: "One of my great loves is going to museums and art galleries and seeing all the different types of art, so I thought, why not a music gallery ?... A Gallery Of The Imagination ? People can paint their own mind pictures to the different types of music that are on the album. It is very diverse and for me it works very well because the concept holds it all together".
CD available.
Mind Maze is, amazingly, Trees Speak’s Fifth album to be released on Soul Jazz Records in the space of little over two years– an output matched only by the intensity of their music created during this short time. As with all their previous releases, Mind Maze is a mind-boggling tightrope walk across an array of musical influences that seamlessly create the unique present-day world of Trees Speak. The band’s sound is characterized by a combination of German krautrock motoric-beat rhythms, angular New York post-punk attitude, 60s spy soundtracks, psych, rock, jazz, and 70s synthesizers and vocoders.
Radical Romantics is the first new album in five-plus years from Fever Ray (aka Swedish experimentalist Karin Dreijer)
'Despite bearing a jarring resemblance to the character Riff Raff from The Rocky Horror Picture Show on the album’s sleeve, Fever Ray’s latest record is the antithesis to the ostentatious theatrics of the show, stripping the eccentricities of human behaviour to its bare bones...Fever Ray posits the idea of love as an imperative condition for human function, and probes into both its darkest corners as well as the simple, mortal desire for affection, producing a fascinating study of electro-pop in the meantime.' You might have missed...
The Reyton's new No.1 album What's Rock And Roll?, 'The group, from South Yorkshire, is made up of Jonny Yerrell, Lee Holland, Joe O’Brien and Jamie Todd. They’ve reached the Number One slot (January 27) with their third, independently released album.'
CD and Ltd milk white vinyl available.
Auckland indie pop band The Beths' 2020 album Jump Rope Gazers gets a reissue on limited edition marble red apple vinyl. 'Jump Rope Gazers fills me with unbridled joy' Phoebe Bridgers
Bicep's 12" EP Circles has had a repress, 'Jet-setting Irish duo Bicep return to Will Saul's Aus label with two steady analog techno grooves ready for deployment in either their own wildly celebrated sets or those of any DJ looking for modern dance tracks that are still faithful to the classics - this is techno that hasn't forgotten where it came from, essentially. Using gritty, vintage-sounding rhythm sections as solid foundations, each track gradually builds up its own lush, melodic embellishments over the top' - in stock now
Country /Americana artist John Hiatt's The Tiki Bar Is Open was originally released 2001 on Vanguard Records. After being out of print for many years, New West and John Hiatt have made it available again. This time in black vinyl.
Chili Peppers guitarist and solo artist John Frusciante releases new double album '. I :'
'After a year and a half writing and recording rock music, I needed to clear my head. I listened to and made music where things generally happen gradually rather than suddenly. I would set up patches on a Monomachine or Analog Four and listen to them, hearing one sound morph into others, making changes to a patch only after having listened for quite a while, gradually adding elements, and finally manipulating the sounds on the fly. All tracks were recorded live to CD burner, with no overdubs, and executed on one or two machines.'
