This week Nottingham post punk duo Sleaford Mods release ‘The Demise Of Planet X’ this week.
'Andrew Fearn and Jason Williamson’s most expansive and ambitious release to date, the album features a rare guest appearance from former Life Without Buildings frontwoman Sue Tompkins, plus collaborations with Aldous Harding, soul singer Liam Bailey and grime MC Snowy, the latter two both hailing from band’s hometown Nottingham.
Boasting the duo’s most varied and expressive musical approach so far, ‘The Demise Of Planet X’ charts, critiques and satirises our times, while offering a universal cry of anger and release of energy that pushes against the encroaching cultural darkness.'
Out Friday 16th January Neon Green LP or CD versions available.

Junun is the debut collaborative album by composer Shye Ben Tzur, Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood, and the Indian ensemble The Rajasthan Express.
Released in 2015, the album was recorded in a makeshift studio within the 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, India. Radiohead's longtime producer Nigel Godrich worked on the album. Junun (an alternate spelling of “junoon,” meaning “mania” or “the madness of love”) received widespread critical acclaim. The group also supported Radiohead's 2018 Moon Shaped Pool tour, performing as Junun.
The album features Ben Tzur's compositions, which incorporate devotional Sufi qawwal musicians singing in Urdu and Hebrew. Jonny Greenwood contributed guitar, bass, keyboards, ondes Martenot, and programming, aiming to use chords sparingly and focusing on North Indian ragas. The recording process sought to capture the “roughness” of Indian music, avoiding the high fidelity often found in world music recordings.
Double yellow LP and CD are out on Friday 16th January

King Gizzard & The Wizard Lizard release a triple LP - Europe '25 on splatter vinyl this week.
'On the latest batch of Gizzard bootlegs comes a curated collection of live cuts from Gizzard's 2025 tour! This all-killer-no-killer live compilation has been scientifically formulated to distill 15 shows into 29 tracks over 3 LPs, with the highest potency available on the market.
French illustrator Lizorah's nod to The Dead's legendary Europe '72 LP is compiled into 3 unique vinyl splatter pressings, each a kaleidoscopic representation of the music within. The full gatefold packaging includes exclusive photos from the tour and more original artwork. Mixed from multi-track stems and mastered for vinyl by Craig Lawrence.'

'Following 2022’s massive Pawns and Kings (#1 US Hard Music Albums, #2 US Billboard 200 With Hard Rock Genre, #3 US Current Rock Albums), rock icons Alter Bridge return with their hard-hitting new self-titled album, Alter Bridge. First single “Silent Divide” kicks off with a charging heavy metal-tinged riff before the iconic voice of Myles Kennedy climbs towards a melodic chorus, metallic bridge and epic harmonic solo! '

Our biggest seller right now is South London post punk band Dry Cleaning's new album Secret Love and we have prints available to give away with each sale while stocks last.
'‘Secret Love’ is an accomplished, assured effort – like its predecessors, yes, but in a manner that subverts the expectations set up by them. By continuing to flip the script on what could have been one of the more one-note acts of the decade (on paper, at least), Dry Cleaning have simultaneously surprised and impressed in their artistic evolution. Even on the edge, the band are still finding new terrain to explore – and you imagine they’ll be at it for a while yet.' NME

This week Mark and Nathan attended the annual ERA's Indie Conference in London (The Digital Entertainment and Retail Association). They had a great day meeting contacts from the labels, suppliers and fellow record shop owners. The both returned full of ideas to implement in the shop going forward.

Nathan's pick this week is a debut called Amir from Belgian-Egyptian singer songwriter Tamino via Communion Records.
'It was produced by PJ Maertens and Jo Francken, and recorded at Maertens’ house in Belgium and at Audiworkx Studios in Holland. Of Belgian, Egyptian and Lebanese heritage the 21-year-old musician has written and shaped an album of startling, visceral, sit-up-and-listen power. Amir features a handful of tracks from his debut EP, Habibi including Indigo Night which features Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood on bass guitar. Although the majority of the playing heard on Amir is Tamino himself, he is joined by a collective of Arabic musicians based in Brussels called Nagham Zikrayat.'

A perennial favourite of Mark's is Neil Young's Tonight's the Night. The album, released in 1975 is regarded as one of the masterpieces in his catalogue. It has been reissued as a 50th Anniversary Deluxe limited edition on vinyl and CD with a newly expanded tracklisting that includes 6 bonus tracks along with an unreleased original version of Lookout Joe recorded during the original 1973 album sessions at S.I.R. in Los Angeles.
This is the first time all six bonus tracks from the original sessions have been available on vinyl, making this the most cohesive and true version of Tonight’s The Night.
The original artwork has been creatively reimagined for this limited edition release.
