New releases in store this week...

James Blake's Playing Robots Into Heaven follows the critically acclaimed Friends That Break Your Heart and will see James return to the electronic roots of his Hessle, Hemlock and R&S Records days.

Limited edition deluxe version and standard vinyl version and CD to choose from

Exorcism of Youth is the first new The View album in 8 years. When The View reconvened last year after five years apart, the three old-friends realised just how much they have missed... well, everything about being in a band: the rush of seeing an audience react to their performances, the camaraderie of being together, a simple jam idea evolving into a fully-fledged song. A run of comeback gigs at Glasgow’s O2 Academy saw all 10,000 tickets sold in advance, the fan reaction was overwhelming and they were even joined on-stage by an old friend in the shape of ‘Line of Duty’ actor Martin Compston.

Admiral red vinyl

'European funk fusion of the highest order, Michel Gonet's Phasing News Volume 1 is the essential companion piece to the venerated Volume 2. It's truly a library treasure that every home must own. As Tele Music themselves said, it contains "tense and mysterious underscores in a range of styles"; whilst we don't disagree, we'd add swaggering, orchestral drama-funk-jazz- breaks'

Mixed Bag - Mixed Bag's First Album

'Rare Soul-Jazz-Fusion from Ann Arbor. Originally released on Tribe Records in 1976. Featuring an all-star line-up; Ron Brooks on bass, on Keyboards Eddie Russ, on the flute Larry Nozero, on the drums Danny Spencer...

The Nashville, Tennessee, garage rock group Be Your Own Pet were signed as teenagers to the prestigious XL in the UK and Thurston Moore's Ecstatic Peace label in the US, with whom they released two widely acclaimed albums. They went on to tour with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Sonic Youth, Le Tigre etc and have been cited as influences for groups such as Paramore and Big Joanie.

Now they return with Mommy their first album in 15 years on Third Man.

Indie Edition Living Dead Green Vinyl

'Holy Church of the Ecstatic Soul: Gospel, Funk and Soul at the Crossroads 1971-83 draws upon the extensive links between black American gospel music and soul music, showing how the sensibilities of gospel artists such as Shirley Caesar, Dorothy Norwood, Andraé Crouch and others crossed over into secular soul music during this period. Many of the most successful soul artists – from Aretha Franklin to Al Green, The Staple Singers to Sam Cooke – all drew upon their upbringing in the church for their musical inspiration. This album discusses how important the links between the black church and soul music were in creating soul music and spotlights some of the many important (and also little-known) gospel artists who walked this line between sacred music and soul, funk and disco in the 1970s and early 1980s. Holy Church of the Ecstatic Soul shows how sacred gospel music was at home with Stevie Wonder, Blaxploitation-style funk and produced music celebrated both in New York’s underground discos (The Paradise Garage, Studio 54, etc) and later sampled by the likes of Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg and Mary J Blige.'

Double vinyl and CD available

'Artists like Jalen Ngonda come around once in a lifetime, so it is our privilege and distinct pleasure to announce the release of his debut album Come Around and Love Me. Anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing Jalen perform live knows that he is one of the most captivating performers on today's soul scene. His voice, equal parts raw feeling and elegance, exudes confidence and charm - disarming packed rooms of rowdy concert goers, leaving them silent as they hold fast to every syllable sung. Now it's your turn to come around and love one of the finest soul albums of the decade.'

Limited edition coloured vinyl

Cypress Hill's eponymous debut self titled album revolutionized hip-hop in several respects. Although they weren't the first Latino rappers, nor the first to mix Spanish and English, they were the first to achieve a substantial following, thanks to their highly distinctive sound. Along with Beastie Boys and Public Enemy, Cypress Hill were also one of the first rap groups to bridge the gap with fans of both hard rock and alternative rock.'

'Originally released in 2013, The Greatest Generation, the third full-length from Philadelphia pop punk legends, The Wonder Years, is considered one of the best pop punk albums of all time...10 years after the original release, The Greatest Generation, is unequivocally awarded one of the 50 greatest pop punk albums in history (according to Rolling Stone) and is known as the bands' seminal release that has stood the test of time.'

Manchester legends, A Certain Ratio, are back with their brand new 2023 EP on limited edition 12” vinyl. This follows the release of their album 1982, and includes 3 remixes of tracks from the record and a brand new track ‘Day by Day’. The remixers on the EP are fellow mancunians Werkha and Jade Parker, as well as close friend Andy Meecham aka Emperor Machine, who originally contributed keyboards and electronic percussion to the very track he’s reworked, ‘Constant Curve.’ The EP also includes a remix of the popular single ‘SAMO’. The final track on the EP is a remix of ‘Waiting on a Train’, presenting a new and special version of the original song, with the presence of the featuring artists, Ellen Beth Abdi and Chunky, remaining strong. Formed in 1978 with a core line-up of Jez Kerr, Martin Moscrop and Donald Johnson, A Certain Ratio emerged from the hallowed grounds of the late 70s punk scene, and from that day on they’ve moved forwards with gleeful disregard for the boundaries of style and genre, their eye fixed firmly on constant progression.

Limited run of 1000

'A defining album of the 90s, Last Splash by The Breeders turns 30 this year...To celebrate this anniversary, the album has been remastered from the original analog tapes – previously thought to be lost – a process which also brought to light two unreleased tracks, a discovery that will delight fans.'

Double Clear/Red LP Cut at 45RPM Plus Etched 12"

Reisssues from Beach House...

'Beach House, Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand, have been playing music forever, each since childhood in baltimore, philadelphia, and france. beach house formed in the summer, it was very late at night and there was a lot of heat. their songs start simple and grow organically like tiny skeletons that multiply layers of necessary flesh. in the beach house world, outside influences have been purely atmospheric. there are many groups and artists that have entranced the duo : the zombies, brian wilson, neil young, big star, chris bell, the list goes on; however, there isn't one particular group or artist that beach house admires more than another. by not forcing the way their songs come to fruition and by allowing all of their ideas to exist and play freely, an otherworldy space is created : organs, slide guitars, reverb, harmony, layers, accidents, echoes and melodies stand by themselves like the ones in everyone's childhood memories. on bella union.'

'Reissue of the 2008 second album, Devotion. Feeling lonely tonight? Then turn off the tv and lower the lights, for baltimore duo Beach House have returned with their sophomore full length entitled Devotion. Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand have written eleven delicate pop songs about love, feelings, and, of course, devotion.'

'The third Basement Jaxx album Kish Kash features an array of stellar guest vocalists including punk icon Siouxsie Sioux on the title track, London grime superstar Dizzee Rascal on “Lucky Star”, the mighty pipes of Rock n’ Soul diva Lisa Kekaula (of LA”s “The Bellrays” ) on “Good Luck” and rounds off with the mellow tones of Meshell Ndegeocello. Released on XL Recordings in 2004, the album subsequently won the inaugural Grammy award for “Best Dance / Electronic Album” and was nominated for the UK’s prestigious Mercury Prize.'

German singer songwriter/producer Roosevelt 'unveils his fourth studio album and first on Counter Records. Over the past decade, multi-instrumentalist Marius Lauber (better known as Roosevelt) has developed a reputation as one of the planet's leading names in electronic pop music, winning over huge audiences with his feel-good live experience. Embrace is unquestionably Roosevelt’s strongest and most personal work to date, incorporating his unique combination of tropical dance floor-ready moments with Northern European precision and sensibilities. Recommended if you like... Jungle, M83, Daft Punk, Tame Impala, Glass Animals, Parcels, Flume'
