Off The Beaten Tracks Customers' Album Of The Year 2020...So Far!

You are a lovely lot! More votes have been coming in for your fave albums of this year - thank you, we've been missing your feedback and we are really enjoying these insights.

To kick us off here's the top choices from this super bunch...

Holly's Top Albums

Peace Levellers - another smasher from our favourite socialists ...still relevant 30 years on.

Also Self Surgery Mrs Piss redolent of 90s grunge... babes in toylandesquue with in-your-face album artwork. My shortest ever album 🙂

Aimie's Top Albums

My favourites of 2020: Thurston Moore By The Fire. I love this album it's pure Thurston genius and We Are Sent Here By History Shabaka and the Ancestors It totally lived up to all expectations of experimental and emotional jazz.

John's Top Albums

1) Telemetric Sounds Heliocentrics Seamless blend of funk, jazz and pychedelic excursions in space from this London based group which includes drummer Malcolm Catto. Would please the ears of both beat heads as well as psych rock fans.
2) Hearts Ease Shirley Collins Luckily we did not have to wait long for another solid album from the folk stalwart Shirley Collins. Great mix of traditional as well as new(ish) songs such as the gorgeous 'Sweet Greens and Blues' which are framed by spot on production.
3) The Ascension Sufjan Stevens. Another fantastic long player from Sufjan- trading the guitar for lush synths and electronics this time along with more introspective lyrics has resulted in another solid album. A artist you can always rely upon!

Les' Top Albums

1) Freier Ghest Sofia Portanet. My most listened to album to come out in 2020. The best voice I've heard in a long time. Absolutely stunning. With some great hooks. I've had a lot of these German pop tracks on repeat over and over and over.

2) We Are Sent Here By History Shabaka and the Ancestors Fabulous Jazz album.

3) Preludio Fabiano Do Nascimento. This is a really good Latin acoustic album. The vocals are nice and understated letting the lovely guitar playing be really enjoyed. This is easily my favourite 'easy evening' album of the year.

Nick's Top Allbums

In a normal year I might have been more adventurous! But in a year of uncertainty and insecurity I have found great listening to albums from bands that I’ve grown with. In some cases these albums have been released a considerable time after their last release.
1) ACR Loco  A Certain Ratio - I love this band and this is an amazing return to their funky best. I kind of missed them as I was a lad as I was too young/not cool enough. The musicianship on it is ace and it’s also made me explore their vibrant back catalogue again. So... a definite North West flavour for this year’s top 3 but I’m happy with my choice. ACR Loco is just immense and I’m gonna do my utmost to catch them live next Autumn when hopefully this episode is behind us!
2) The Universal Want  Doves. I love these lads and pretty much all they’ve done. This is up there with their best stuff and was definitely worth the wait.
3) I Love the New Sky Tim Burgess
It has a lovely sound, a mixture of styles, intelligent and gentle lyrics...special mention too for his Listening Parties that gave us something to cling to and come together around during Lockdown #1... the boy’s getting on for National Treasure status.
Special mentions must also go to Field Music for their amazing concept album Making a New World. It was special to hear it played in its entirety live in February. On the pop front I have also loved Hazel English’s Wake Up! It’s packed with sun-drenched California cool.
THANKS to all these customers for their favourites so far!
Drop us a line with your top 3 albums of 2020 and the reason why. We'll be sharing ours too and sharing the albums with the most votes at the close of the year.

The good news is that we can open our doors again on Wednesday 2nd December 10.00am. We will resume normal opening hours. 10-5.30pm Tues-Sat (late opening til 6pm on Fridays). We look forward to seeing you again, from a safe distance ofcourse!
The less good news is that Lincolnshire is in Tier 3 until 16th December so we really appreciate your patience whilst we have to limit numbers of customers in our small shop and take care with social distancing. Staff will be wearing a mask at all times, we have a screen across the counter, we recommend card payments where possible and we have access to hand sanitizer at the door.
Remember you can order online and pick up at the shop at your convenience for no extra charge. Or we can still deliver free of charge to Louth.
Thank you for your continued support, it means a lot to a family business.
See you soon, Mark
