Pigs x 7, Magdalena Bay, Pre Order Wet Leg, One week until Record Store Day!

Posted by Lee Conybeare on

New arrivals in store this week...

'The fifth album from Newcastle’s riff wizards Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs is defined by calculated aggression and self-lacerating lyrics. Its startling bonuses include playful synth work and the appearance of a giant from hip-hop. With its title juxtaposing absurdity and seriousness, this is Death Hilarious.'

We have been getting lots of requests for this album so it is back in stock on double vinyl and CD.

'Magdalena Bay, the Los Angeles-based duo of Mica Tenenbaum and Matthew Lewin, create magical pop music that floats in the ether of our collective social cosmos. While they call California home, their essence lies in the clouds, emitting unique yet familiar frequencies of synthesized nostalgia, kitschy catchiness, and warped neo-hooks. Suited for the times, Magdalena Bay blends the known and felt with innovative sonic landscapes. Tenenbaum and Lewin met as teenagers in a Miami high school music program. Tenenbaum, who moved from Buenos Aires to Florida at age one, and Lewin, a guitar shredder influenced by his dad’s prog and concept rock records, quickly recognized their kindred spirits.'

We also have recently some great priced Iron Maiden reissues in, a new Smile Remix 12", live albums by Rolling Stones, Frank Zappa and Taste plus new albums by Snapped Ankles, Arch Enemy, Perfume Genius, Destroyer, Dean Wareham from Galaxie 500 and lots more.

Isle of Wight indie rock group Wet Leg are back with their second album Moisturizer, out 11th July. You can pre-order now - choose clear vinyl, black vinyl or CD.

'Joined by Ellis Durand, Henry Holmes, and Joshua Mobaraki, Wet Leg has spent the past few years on the road, evolving into a feral, electrifying live force. This new record captures that energy, delivering a sound that’s tighter, bolder, and more self-assured, yet still brimming with the same quick wit and raw, unrefined energy.

Isolated in a remote house in the countryside, moisturizer was written in a creative frenzy, diving into themes of obsession and all-consuming love. While their 2022 debut earned Grammy wins and chart-topping success, moisturizer brings the bite: brash guitars, heavy beats, and a fearless devotion to feeling everything—all at once.'

The day is divided into two parts:
Strange Encounters
The daytime events run from 10am until 4pm.

There’s a weird and wonderful market taking place in the ballroom where you will be able to find everything from art prints to ghost hunting equipment – open to all, no ticket required.

During the day, as you browse the market, there will be live haunted electronica performed by Linoleum Department.

Three talks of an hour each are also scheduled during the day

Talk: The Wollaton Gnomes with Kate Rae - 11am

Talk: Haunted Lincs with Kate Cherrell - 12.30pm

Talk: Myths and Music with musician Matt Tango Ellerby - 2.30pm

Dark & Dissonant
As darkness falls our evening presentation begins at 7pm with a performance of The Filing Cabinet of Fear from The Occultaria of Albion.

A show which explores the paranormal case files trapped within a possessed piece of office equipment.
Following the filing cabinet will be a screening of Penda’s Fen, by David Rudkin and directed by Alan Clarke. Rarely shown since its first television broadcast in 1974, this is a strange, mystical and magnificent piece of pastoral horror. It will begin with a short introduction by Dr Diane Rodgers from Sheffield Hallam University.

This dark night of the Wolds concludes with a set by electronic musician, The Heartwood Institute from the Lake District. His work has appeared on seminal labels like Castles in Space and Library of the Occult.

Dark and degraded synth led investigations into folklore, the occult, psychogeography and 70's counterculture. Not to be missed!'
