New In Store This Week...

Hull shoegaze/dreampop band bdrmm are back...

'While the world became socially distanced in 2020, Hull’s post-shoegaze, dream pop, heavy guitar effects quartet bdrmm made the kind of impact with their debut album any young band would dream about. Bedroom was hailed as “a heady, forward-thinking shoe gaze distillation” by Clash magazine, the Guardian proclaimed “one of the underground hits of lockdown”, while NME awarded the album five solid stars and called Bedroom nothing less than “a modern day shoe gaze classic.”

Now signed to Mogwai's Rock Action Records, the band return with I Don't Know, complete with their trademark effects-laden guitars and motorik Neu! grooves but now with added piano, strings, electronica, sampling and the occasional dance beat. Bdrmm fans will not be disappointed and the fans of Radiohead, Ride, Mogwai, The Cure that are yet to discover bdrmm would do well by blessing their ears with I Don't Know.'

Limited edition white marble vinyl and CD available

'Provo Utah's The Aces release their latest studio album I've Loved You For So Long via Red Bull Records. The 11-track album produced by Keith Varon. In the years since The Aces released their Billboard& MRc/Luminate Top 10 charting, and acclaimed second album, Under My Influence, in 2020, the band has been on a journey of self-discovery. Faced with the realities of a global pandemic, sisters Cristal and Alisa Ramirez (lead vocals/guitar and drums, respectively), Katie Henderson (lead guitar/vocals), and McKenna Petty (bass) used quarantine as a time to reflect, confronting personal mental health issues as well as processing experiences they’d had growing up together in Provo, Utah, as part of the Mormon church. When The Aces returned to the studio, their vision — and the honesty and trust between them — felt stronger than ever. The result of this growth period is I’ve Loved You For So Long, the band’s third studio album - a sparkling indie-rock record that’s by far their most personal and self-assured work to date.'

'Destination Dusseldorf is the brand new studio album from Scotland's legendary Skids. The band note Europe as an ongoing inspiration for the new LP; "from the beauty of the Renaissance to the savagery of many wars, the highs and lows have been from there as an ongoing and ever evolving influence. This new album follows in the footsteps of Days In Europa as a celebration of friendship and shared experiences."

Also out this week from Skids...

'Days In Europa, the 1979 album by Scottish new-wave punk band The Skids, has been remastered and reissued on a double LP featuring original artwork and 7 new bonus tracks.'

We have several new reissues on coloured vinyl in store this week from the legend Marianne Faithfull...

First up, a limited edition clear vinyl version of Before The Poison, from 2004, it 'is an album that concerns itself with both sides of love, friendship, and redemption, not desolation or desperation. That said, there is plenty of human shadow in these ten songs. PJ Harvey wrote three songs here, co-wrote a pair with Faithfull, and is present on all of them. Nick Cave co-wrote three with the singer and his Bad Seeds back her on these tracks. She also co-wrote one a piece with Blur's Damon Albarn and composer Jon Brion. Along with Harvey and Cave, Rob Ellis and Hal Willner aided in production. Therefore, Before the Poison, like its predecessor, Kissin' Time, is an album of collaborations. But unlike that offering, this one is seamless; its songs are sequenced impeccably and all feel of a piece linked by emotional thematics.

Horses and High Heels (2010), 'sees the '60s icon revisit eight classic songs from her heyday on her second consecutive covers-heavy album, following 2009's Easy Come Easy Go. Its 13 tracks include reworkings of the Shangri-Las' "Past, Present and Future," Lesley Duncan's "Love Song," and Dusty Springfield's "Goin' Back," alongside several new compositions ("Why Did We Have to Part," "The Old House") and guest appearances from Lou Reed, Dr. John and MC5's Wayne Kramer. This reissue is a special one with a yellow coloured vinyl edition.'

Give My Love To London, (2014) 'Her writing collaborators here include Nick Cave, Anna Calvi, Ed Harcourt, Patrick Leonard, and Tom McRae. Her bandmates are an all-star unit too, and include Harcourt, Adrian Utley, Dimitri Tikovoi, Rob and Warren Ellis, and strings. Cave co-wrote one song with her (the tender "Deep Water") and one for her: the glorious "Late Victorian Holocaust," the album's hinge piece. Give My Love to London is as complete a portrait of the artist - at least from the late '70s on - as we've ever had. In total, it reveals no abatement in her creative renaissance. This reissue is a special one with a red coloured vinyl edition.'

'Easy Come Easy Go is a covers collection, featuring Faithfull in different musical settings and interpreting the songs of everyone from Merle Haggard to Smokey Robinson to Duke Ellington to Randy Newman to the Decemberists to Morrissey with a killer guest list including Antony Hegarty, Rufus Wainwright, Teddy Thompson, Kate and Anna McGarrigle, Jarvis Cocker, Jenni Muldaur, Sean Lennon, Warren Ellis, Nick Cave, and Keith Richards. The core band on this set includes old friends like Marc Ribot and Greg Cohen as well as drummer Jim White, Rob Burger, Doug Weiselman, Steve Weisberg, Barry Reynolds, Steven Bernstein, Marty Ehrlich, and Lenny Pickett.'

Limited edition white double vinyl.

Dream From The Deep Well is the new album from celebrated Irish singer songwriter Brigid Mae Power. Recognised as a purveyor of dreamier pop with folky leanings, this new album is a departure; a unique marriage of traditional stylings and very modern melodies; a breath-taking soundtrack which underpins her gorgeous vocal.

'Celebrating 25 years since the release of the seminal 1998 album Time Was GIGANTIC... When we were kids by The Durutti Column. Re-mastered with 5 bonus tracks: It’s Your Life, Babe (Bonus Track), Kiss of Def (Bonus Track), In the City (Bonus Track), New Order Tribute (Bonus Track) and Drinking Song (version) (Bonus Track). Time Was GIGANTIC… was the final Factory Records release for The Durutti Column and the last release for the label before it closed. The edition features extensive liner notes by Factory Records and band expert James Nice. The original artwork has been revisited by the original designers 8VO (Mark Holt and Hamish Muir). The band and lead member Vini Reilly were one of the first signings to Factory Records. The band has developed a cult following over the past 40 years with fans of the band including Brian Eno, John Frusciante (who called Vini “the best guitarist in the world”, The Chromatics, Jonny Marr and John Cooper Clarke.'

Americana artist Neko Case's 'Wild Creatures is a career retrospective album containing twenty-three of Neko Case's most impactful tracks from her discography. With a career spanning over twenty years, she has famously collaborated with The New Pornographers and Case/Lang/Veirs in addition to releasing many critically acclaimed solo albums, including Fox Confessor Brings The FloodMiddle Cyclone and most recently 2018's Hell-On.'

Double eco mix vinyl

2023 Vinyl Reissue. INSIDE OF EMPTINESS is the fourth album of a six album series released by John Frusciante from June 2004 to February 2005. It features Josh Klinghoffer and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez as guest musicians. The album genre is based around rock, with synthesizers playing only a minor role throughout.
