New in store this week from....

Creation Rebel, Nico, Ride, New Found Glory...plus...

'Marking 40 years of The Jesus And Mary Chain, Glasgow Eyes was recorded at Mogwai’s Castle of Doom studio in Glasgow, where Jim and William continued the creative process that resulted in their previous album, 2017’s Damage and Joy, becoming their highest charting album in over twenty years. What emerged is a record that finds one of the UK’s most influential groups embracing a productive second chapter, their maelstrom of melody, feedback and controlled chaos now informed more audibly by their love for Suicide and Kraftwerk and a fresh appreciation of the less disciplined attitudes found in jazz.

Jim Reid says, “But don’t expect ‘the Mary Chain goes jazz.’ People should expect a Jesus and Mary Chain record, and that’s certainly what Glasgow Eyes is. Our creative approach is remarkably the same as it was in 1984, just hit the studio and see what happens. We went in with a bunch of songs and let it take its course.'

Vinyl and CD versions available.

Adrianne Lenker (Big Thief) is a prolific talent and her new album Bright Future is out this week.

'Admirers of Adrianne’s solo music and Big Thief will find on Bright Future her reliable talent captured in stunning, magnetic clarity. In the company of parlour instruments, Adrianne’s modern melodic and lyrical inventions create new traditions. Her vocal flights at times outwit gravity, then land, guiding along an earthly path. The wholeness of the un-spliced recordings preserves a time of musical friendship during a golden season. The album also features the original recording of the now-beloved Big Thief song ‘Vampire Empire.’ Although they recorded for only some days, in Adrianne’s recollection, “It felt like we were together forever.”

Limited edition vinyl, CD and cassette available.

'One of the hardest-working singer-songwriters in the game is named Katie Crutchfield. She was born in Alabama, and grew up near Waxahatchee Creek. Skipped town and struck out on her own as Waxahatchee. That was over a decade ago. Crutchfield says she never knew the road would lead her here, but after six critically acclaimed albums, she's never felt more confident in herself as an artist. While her sound has evolved from lo-fi folk to lush alt-tinged country, her voice has always remained the same. Honest and close, poetic with Southern lilting. Much like Carson McCullers's Mick Kelly, determined in her desires and convictions, ready to tell whoever will listen.'

Various versions available

'Dark Horse Records releases Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros iconic Live at Acton Town Hall concert, remastered by Grammy Award Winner Paul Hicks (The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, George Harrison).

Recorded on November 15, 2002, the concert was a benefit for striking firefighters and would be one of Joe’s last performances.'

Double LP version available

'Fantastic is the debut album by pop duo Wham!, originally released on 1 July 1983. It reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. It included the previously released singles "Young Guns", "Wham Rap!" and "Bad Boys". "Club Tropicana" was released as a single to coincide with the album's release.'

'Beloved, Portland pop / indie-rock trio Gossip returns with Real Power, their first album in 14 years. The album marks a reunion with acclaimed producer Rick Rubin, who helmed the band’s pivotal 2009 album Music For Men. Rubin coaxed the band started recording in 2019 after completing a tour for the ten-year anniversary of Music For Men.'

'Following the recent release of Dee C Lee’s latest single, Walk Away, Acid Jazz Records release Just Something, Dee’s first album since 1998...Just Something features eleven songs: nine originals co-written by Dee, a song penned by her daughter Leah Weller, a successful singer, songwriter in her own right, and two inspired covers. Produced by Sir Tristan Longworth, the album is a soulful collection with an easy-going vibe that frames the instantly recognisable vocals of one of the finest and most in-demand British soul singers of her generation - the writer and performer of Top three single ‘See The Day’, and former member of The Style Council, Slam Slam, Wham! and Animal Nightlife - in luxurious horns, percussion and keys, and heritage soul with a disco backdrop.'

'The multiple Grammy Award-winning diamond-selling international megastar, actor, dancer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Usher inspires change yet again in 2023 and beyond. Selling over 80 million records worldwide and collecting dozens of awards, he has simultaneously lit up the small screen on NBC’s The Voice and the big screen in blockbusters such as Hustlers. He has also tirelessly distinguished himself as a devout humanitarian, raising tens of millions of dollars for various causes and uplifting youth via his New Look Foundation. Since 1999 he has been providing opportunities for young people in underserved communities and enabling them to flourish and achieve seemingly impossible dreams. A true outlier, he is equally at home on the stage of his sold out My Way Las Vegas residency as he was on a 2016 government cultural mission to Cuba as part of President Barack Obama’s Presidential Committee for Arts and Humanities.

This album, Coming Home, marks the creative reunion of Usher and L.A. Reid, who haven’t worked together since 2004’s Diamond certified Confessions.'

Double Clear Vinyl version available.

Quiet Is the New Loud is the debut album by Norwegian duo Kings of Convenience. Originally released January 29, 2001. The album features the singles “Winning a Battle, Losing the War” and “Toxic Girl”.

'Emerging in 2001 on a small wave of hype touting Norway as a new musical hotbed, Quiet is the New Loud by Kings Of Convenience was startling in its earnestness, even to ears that had been softened by the likes of Belle and Sebastian. Where that Scottish band tempers its twee-ness with clever, winking wordplay, Erlend Oye and Eirik Glambek Boe are more akin to a latter-day Simon and Garfunkel or a couple of Nick Drakes who are lucky to have found each other.'

Reissue on vinyl

Mark Knopfler's Guitar Heroes‘Going Home (Theme From Local Hero)’

'This is a charitable recording of Mark Knopfler’s instrumental,‘Going Home (Theme From Local Hero)’, produced in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America. The recording features the greatest and most iconic guitarists performing today, alongside an all-star band.'

12" etched single and CD versions available.

Various - Uptown Top Ranking: Trojan Ska and Reggae Chartbusters - New 2LP

'Overflowing with positive vibes, memorable melodies, and irresistible rhythms, this essential feel-good collection is guaranteed to get feet moving, fill dancefloors and spread joy any time of the year.'

“My heart is loud,” Julia Holter sings on her sixth album Something in the Room She Moves, following an inner pulse. The Los Angeles songwriter’s past work has often explored memory and dreamlike future, but her latest album resides more in presence: “There’s a corporeal focus, inspired by the complexity and transformability of our bodies,” Holter says. Her production choices and arrangements form a continuum of fretless electric bass pitches in counterpoint with gliding vocal melodies, while glissing Yamaha CS-60 lines entwine warm winds and reeds. “I was trying to create a world that’s fluid-sounding, waterlike, evoking the body’s internal sound world,” Holter says of her flowing harmonic universe. '

Double red vinyl version available.
