After a good run we don't have any new Neil Young releases this week (!) but plenty more great stuff to tell you about...
Muse release their ninth album Will Of The People this week, 'With Muse being Muse, there is NO bowing to any singular genre. The album’s title track “Will Of The People” brings playful provocation to a dystopian glam-rocker while there is an innocence and a purity to the nostalgic electronic textures of “Verona.” From the visceral thrill of “Won’t Stand Down,” to the industrial-tinged, granite heavy riffs of “Kill Or Be Killed”
CD or cream 140gm vinyl
'Arguably the greatest Jamaican record producer of all time, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry was instrumental in transforming the island’s national sound throughout the Sixties and Seventies, with his unique approach to music making pushing the music beyond previously perceived boundaries...To mark the first anniversary of his passing, the very best of his work is showcased across a number of products, all of which effectively demonstrate why Perry was widely venerated figure for so long..'
2CD or 2LP
Ezra Furman is back with a new album All Of Us Flames getting great reviews.
'A singer, songwriter, and author whose incendiary music has soundtracked all three seasons of the Netflix show Sex Education, Ezra Furman has for years woven together stories of queer discontent and unlikely, fragile intimacies. Her new album All of Us Flames widens that focus to a communal scope, painting transformative connections among people who unsettle the stories power tells to sustain itself.'
CD or clear vinyl version
The limited silver 25th anniversary edition of Oasis' Be Here Now is in stock.
Slipknot reissue their fourth album All Hope Is Gone on orange crush coloured vinyl. Originally released in 2008, it features the tracks Psychosocial and Snuff.
Double limited edition orange crush vinyl.
'Pre Pleasure is the breath-taking third album from Australian singer-songwriter, Julia Jacklin. Co-produced with Marcus Paquin (The Weather Station, The National), Pre Pleasure sees Jacklin as her most authentic self, delivering the most intimate, raw and devastating ten songs of her career to date. An uncompromising and masterful lyricist, always willing to mine the depths of her own life experience, and singular in translating it into deeply personal, timeless songs.'
CD
Japanese psychedelic rock band Kikagaku Moyo's Kumoyo Island is out this week, ' the title and cover art for the band’s fifth and final album draws you into a magical mass of land surrounded by water—but the couch suggests that Kumoyo Island may not be a fleeting stop, but rather a place of respite, where one could pause and take it all in.' Beautiful item!
Machine Head Of Kingdom and Crown
'Undisputed masters of murderous riffs, pugnacious grooves and ferocious hooks since 1991, Machine Head are long established as one of the most influential and incendiary bands in the metal world...In 2022, Machine Head are back with their most crushing and complete album yet. Of Kingdown and Crown is an hour-long conceptual monolith, rich in colour and dynamics but hell-bent on destruction.'
Standard CD version or Deluxe version CD Digipack with Two Bonus Tracks available now.
80s formed Leeds Indie Rock band The Wedding Present release the 8th single in their 24 Songs series (a new 7” single every month throughout 2022) Each Time You Open Your Eyes is out Friday 26th August
'In their relatively brief lifetime, between 1996 and 2002, Hefner enjoyed an incredibly productive four-album, multi-EP career. Their beautiful, concise, intelligent songs earned a fiercely loyal, cult audience and the long-term support of legendary DJ John Peel, for whom they recorded innumerable sessions. Originally released in 2001, their final album, Dead Media, found Hefner reaching out and taking risks.
Keen to break free of their indie-folk roots, they cocooned themselves in a home studio with broken analogue synthesizers, antique drum machines and battery-powered amplifiers. The band’s naivety and guile produced some curiously engaging music, with frontman Darren Hayman’s precise, economic, poetic dissections of quotidian romance draped over awkward, fuzzy beats: something like Cat Stevens covering Warm Leatherette.'
Transparent green vinyl edition - limited to 300 copies
Out this week on transparent yellow vinyl is the reissue of Playing With Fire by shoegaze pioneers Spacemen 3. First released in 1989, 'Fuelled by narcotic indulgence and an overwhelming sense of darkness it was rightly hailed as a classic.'
'In 2012 a strange, masked collective from Sweden called Goat released World Music one of the unexpected and most talked about albums of the year. Mixing heavy fuzz-psych with tribal Afro grooves, head nod funk, the repetitions of krautrock and the pop of post-punk to create something completely unique.'
Two versions to choose from: Hot Pink with a Blue die cut sleeve with new design and fold out poster or Blue vinyl with a yellow die cut sleeve with new design and fold out poster.
Pulp's 1992 release Separations which includes tracks like My Legendary Girlfriend and Countdown has been reissued with liner notes from music journalist Everett True. It's great news that the band have hinted about reforming for some live shows next year.
