New In Store This Week...

Not one but two reissues from NY rock band The Strokes

Limited edition purple vinyl reissue of The Strokes' 2011 album Angles, includes 'fan favourite "Machu Pichu" rubs shoulders with killer singles "Taken for A Fool" and "Under Cover of Darkness" but there's so much to love about this record it's almost churlish to pick out highlights.'

The Strokes' fifth studio album, Comedown Machine 'with a minimal cover design that resembles an RCA demo tape. It's their best album since they hit perfection with their debut. They sound like themselves - those taut rhythmical jabs, stabs of guitar underpinning Casablanca's dozily sighed vocals - but nothing like themselves at the same time.'

Joni Mitchell - At Newport

“Angels of Newport, let’s make history together,” [Brandi Carlile] said with growing emotion. “Hold nothing back in this moment and please welcome back to the Newport stage for the first time since 1969 . . . Joni Mitchell!”

Mitchell emerged from the side of the stage, swaying smoothly, in fine summer-style with beret and sunglasses. Her good-natured mood instantly set the tone. This performance would be an intimate gathering of friends, not unlike the Joni Jams she’d been hosting in her own living room over the last few years of recovery. Smiling broadly, Mitchell took her on-stage seat alongside Carlile and began the extraordinary performance that was on nobody’s bingo card. Within minutes, the news had rocketed around the globe. Mitchell was back, sparkling with enthusiasm, delivering a tender and passionate set of 13 songs, ending with a joyful sing-along of “The Circle Game.” -Excerpt from the liner notes written by Cameron Crowe'

'Following their Nowhere 30th anniversary UK tour last year, Oxford shoegaze legends Ride who started out playing on the Cowley Road with Radiohead and  Supergrass release two more titles of their early classic albums Tarantula and Carnival of Light via Wichita Recordings. These follow last year’s reissues of Nowhere, 4EPs, and Going Blank Again from their days on Creation Records.

Carnival of Light, the band’s third album is repressed in transparent glow in the green double vinyl, and comes with a 12x12 insert

Tarantula is released on black Vinyl Despite It Stating Orange Vinyl on a Sticker' on the LP.

Dexys are back! 11 years since the release of their last album of original music, the acclaimed One Day I'm Going to Soar, the band return with a stunning new record. The Feminine Divine is Dexys’ fifth album of original material produced once again by Pete Schwier, along with acclaimed session musician and producer Toby Chapman. After taking some time out to refocus his energy, Kevin Rowland came back to music with a fresh perspective and new-found positivity.

'Celebrating 40 years of Wham! Britain’s best-loved and most popular duo, this is what the fans have been waiting for... Wham! The Singles: Echoes From The Edge Of Heaven. Containing all the hits, which spanned four dazzlingly successful years, kicking off with 1982’s Young Guns (Go For It) and culminating in 1986’s The Edge Of Heaven. Along the way, there was some of the most uplifting music of any era: Wham! Rap! (Enjoy What You Do), Bad Boys, Club Tropicana, Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, Freedom, Last Christmas, Everything She Wants and I’m Your Man!'

Featuring all 11 Singles (A and B Sides). Housed in Gatefold Sleeve. Blue vinyl

Swansea indie pop band The Pooh Sticks release Straight Up: Noise Pollution C88-90,  'a selection of some of the most loved / despised / ignored tracks released by The Pooh Sticks on however many records it was before it all went wilfully ‘American’ sometime around dotted-line’ing for BMG mega-corp in 1991.'

'After taking time out from working together to focus on separate musical projects, maverick composer Alan Roberts (Jim Noir) and crowd-rousing vocalist Leonore Wheatley (International Teachers of Pop / The Soundcarriers ) have re-joined forces to introduce Co-Pilot. Each the other’s wing person, they’re plotting an escape through Manchester’s claustrophobic grey skies with the pencil case colour of a hand-sewn multi-coloured primary school patchwork quilt. “We are both the creators in charge of navigating Co-Pilot’s overall sound which changes from track to track,” Leonore hints at what to expect. “There are about 6 different genres on one album, it's a pick n mix record!”

Remastered version of Trust, originally released on Play It Again Sam / Nettwerk in 1989. It is collection of electro-pop, rinsed through with Chris and Cosey’s unique erotic vision.

'Another classic Chris and Cosey 'Nineties period' album. A remastered version of the 1991 album Pagan Tango. It has a spectral air created by often ominous / mournful synths and Cosey's ghostly vocals that remind you of the Velvet Underground chanteuse Nico. Originally released on Wax Trax!, and sees the pair once follow their own hypnotic beat in new directions.'

Red vinyl

'Remastered version of 1985’s Technø Primitiv, originally released on Rough Trade, the album is from Chris and Cosey’s whiplash minimal ‘80s icy synth period.'

Blue vinyl

Originally released in 1995, Spanners is the second album from British electronic group The Black Dog and their first for Warp Records. 'In 2017 it was selected by Pitchfork as one of ‘The 50 Best IDM Albums of All Time’. The reissue is the first time the vinyl is available since its original pressing in 1995. After this release the original trio of Ed Handley, Andy Turner and Ken Downie went their separate ways - Handley and Turner formed Plaid, whilst Downie carried on with The Black Dog name, initially by himself, and latterly with the assistance of brothers Martin and Richard Dust. Re-cut by Beau Thomas for vinyl and presented as an exact reproduction of the original edition.'

The third album in the Artificial Intelligence series, Bytes was originally released in 1993 and this reissue marks the 30th anniversary. As you may have guessed Black Dog Productions were Ed Handley, Andy Turner and Ken Downie. For this record, Handley, Turner and Downie appear under various guises: Atypic, Balil, I.A.O, Close Up Over, Xeper, Discordian Popes and Plaid. Re-cut by Beau Thomas for vinyl and presented as an exact reproduction of the original edition.

First time vinyl repress of this John Cale album, originally released on the Opal label in 1989, produced by Brian Eno.

“‘Words For The Dying’ has at its heart The Falklands Suite, Cale’s baroque if heartfelt response to the Anglo-Argentinian War, which finds him setting the poems of his beloved Dylan Thomas to music. When building songs around another’s words, the results often sound forced, but Cale does a magnificent job of compressing Thomas’s lyricism into neat melodic phrases, themselves just components of a vast harmonic mega-structure scored for the USSR’s Orchestra of Symphonic and Popular Music of Gostelradio. A project that could easily have collapsed under the weight of its own ambition is instead a late masterpiece, thanks to Cale’s deep-seated compositional genius, and unobtrusive but resonant production from Brian Eno.” - Kiran Sande.

Clear vinyl with printed inner sleeve and digital download card.

Gazelle Twin - aka composer, producer, singer, and visual artist Elizabeth Bernholz - has scored Sky's brand new TV series Then You Run. The score is pressed on white vinyl, and housed in a deluxe spined sleeve with download card. Created for television by Ben Chanan (The Capture), based on the novel YOU by Zoran Drvenkar, Then You Run follows four rebellious London teenagers on a city getaway to Rotterdam.

'With platinum and gold selling accolades across their catalogue of 5 albums Yorkshire indie rock band The Pigeon Detectives return with album 6 TV Show, an album influenced by their biggest hits but matured beyond them.

Feeling like a band reborn The Pigeon Detectives have never really gone away, having quietly built a resurgent following at headline gigs and festivals across the UK with their high octane live show, the set is peppered with sing-a-long hits that have passed the test of time with flying colours attracting a younger audience to shows alongside a contingent of Pigeon ‘die hards’.

Following their recent reunion, 90s/00s Scottish Indie rock band The Delgados are a big fave of ours.

'They reissue their fourth studio album Hate on transparent curacao coloured vinyl and CD for its 21st anniversary. Hate was the sound of The Delgados completely fulfilling their potential, a fully realised vision buoyed by the weight of coming through a darkness into light. Ushering in a new era of emotionally vulnerable and cinematic songwriting for celebrated Glasgow group The Delgados, 2002’s Hate is the group’s most ambitious recorded statement to date. Recorded in Glasgow and New York with Tony Doogan, Dave Fridmann and the band as producers and using over 20 additional musicians, Hate grabs the baton from the group’s breakthrough critical and commercial success The Great Eastern.
