Out This Week
The super prolific King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard re-issue their 2019 LP Infest The Rats Nest on black eco mix vinyl which is housed in recycled brown paper sleeve, instead of plastic shrink wrap, with a Gatefold sleeve and poster.
It's encouraging to see more artists opt for eco mix vinyl. Vinyl production has dramatically increased in recent years. It's a big plus that records are items which we treasured and pass on to future generations unlike so many throwaway items but there are definitely improvements that can be made in their production in terms of effects on the environment and the health of workers (interestingly there are high environmental costs associated with the storage of downloads). Pressing plants like Deepgroove in the Netherlands and Jack White's Third Man Records are already working on these issues. Sustainable methods of vinyl production is something we're keen to understand more about and help promote this year. We'd love to hear your thoughts.
We're big fans of Belfast electronic duo Bicep. The track Atlas was a fave during the first lockdown and it's on their new new album Isles which is released on Ninja Tune this week. 'It’s a record that encapsulates their 15 year career and the distillation of their passion for music and club culture while digging deeper into the sounds, emotions and experiences they had growing up in Belfast and living the past 10 years in London.' Choose from deluxe orange 3LP version, standard black 2 LP, CD or cassette.
Palberta are New Yorkers Ani Ivry-Block, Lily Konigsberg, and Nina Ryser. Their new album Palberta5000 has '16 adventurous, hyper-melodic tracks which represent the band’s most accessible album by far - one that is bursting at the seams with vocal hooks and exuberant playing.' For fans of Slits, Raincoats, A-Frames, Wire, Goat Girl, Minutemen and Urinals. Available on transparent red vinyl.
Sheffield Rock band Bring Me The Horizon release Post Human: Survival Horror EP their highly anticipated 9 track EP featuring Yungblud, Babymetal, Amy Lee and the Nova Twins.
Scottish indie folk musician James Yorkston returns with The Secondhand Orchestra to release new album The Wide, Wide River this week. 'The album came to be after the blossoming of a long-term friendship between James Yorkston and Karl-Jonas Winqvist, the Swedish music producer, leader and conductor of The Second Hand Orchestra.' Available on ltd green vinyl or CD.
